Predicting the Sixth Class with Diablo 4’s Weapons and Cosmetics

While Diablo IV has passed the peak of its popularity, Blizzard does seem to have learned a valuable lesson from the launch of Season of Malignant and hopes that the next season will be more in line with player expectations. Diablo 4’s second season first needed to fix the endgame, as players needed to have options of which activities to undertake in order to level up and earn loot, but many other aspects of the game needed extra help. Diablo 4 introduces the series’ past five classes, all of which feature signature weapon types that can be shared with other classes – though in some cases, they’re unique to their respective archetypes. This affects cosmetics in Diablo 4 differently, whether acquired through the Seasonal Battle Pass or purchased in the in-game store, as each slot has weapon-type-specific skins. For Diablo 4’s sixth class, it would make sense to use at least one weapon type that’s exclusive to a different class, since it means players can already have some weapon skins of that slot from the battle pass or shop. It also allows Blizzard to reuse some existing assets in a way that makes sense from a given category perspective. With only six weapon types unique to their respective classes, the list was narrowed down to a few potential suspects.

Since daggers are exclusive to rogues, and off-hand items exist for multiple classes, it makes sense that the Witch Doctor returns from Diablo 3, and his use of ritual daggers and mojos may be similar to the totems used by druids. In the case of polearms, narrowing down can be difficult as they are commonly used by Barbarians, Amazons, Druids, and Paladins in Diablo 2 and Crusaders, Monks, and Barbarians in Diablo 3. The ones that make the most sense here are the Amazons, monks, and paladins from Diablo 4, with the Crusader being slightly less likely since it’s focused on flails.

Bows will once again provide a good reason for the return of Amazons in Diablo 4, as they are one of the Amazon weapons equivalent to the crossbow in Diablo 2. Likewise, in Diablo 3, Demon Hunters can use a crossbow as a one-hand weapon, so the Demon Hunters are one of the possibilities. Finally, shields could pave the way for the return of the crusader or paladin archetypes, as they are the only missing classes that use shields. As such, the classes with the most overlap, and therefore the most meaningful return, are Amazons and Paladins, which also share the same weapon types as other existing Diablo 4 classes, including swords and maces.
